Wówaš’ake Stable

Wówaš’ake Stable

Below are pictures of the barn that was built by volunteer mission teams in 2025. Interior framing will continue in 2026. Once the ministry center on the west side of the property is complete, Wówaš’ake Stable will use this barn for its ministry. Until then, Wówaš’ake Stable will operate out of the horse pasture in its Lakeside location.

Wówaš’ake (pronounced woh-WASH'-ah-kay) in Lakota means resilience. The children growing up in Oglala are resilient. Despite all children face they are so strong.

Stable has two meanings. More than just a horse’s home, it also connects to stability. This ministry is here to help youth grow the stability we can have through Christ. We find resilience and stability in following Jesus.

Oyate Concern has been serving the community of Oglala, South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation since 2003. During this time, our ministry has been located six miles outside of Oglala, requiring transportation for all programs and outreach. In 2020, we had the opportunity to purchase 20 acres of land in the center of town. In 2025-2027, we will be launching a horse-ranch ministry called Wówaš’ake Stable and constructing a ministry center and barn on this parcel. Once complete, we will move all of our programming to this site, where we can be accessible to the community in a permanent facility.

At Wówaš’ake Stable our ministry staff will share the love of Christ with children and families from the community. As we introduce children to positive relationships with horses and build up their skill and confidence, we will point them to the redemption, healing, and hope found in Christ. In this program our ministry staff will utilize individual discipleship, the power of small group community, and the grace and love of Jesus to serve our community.
