Meetings and Activities

Oyate Concern Christian Elementary

Oyate Concern began by home schooling students in the community as the need presented itself. When we began to see the positive effects that schooling the children here had on their self esteem, confidence, scripture knowledge and general character, we developed a heart to begin a preschool. This preschool will accept five students in the fall of 2009. We plan to add a grade of students a year until the sixth grade. We believe that the time and energy invested in the children in the school will be a key to discipling and preparing future leadership.

Oyate Grace Church

This is a church established in January of 2006 to encourage indigenous leadership and an indigenous church. This is a family friendly church that meets in the evenings on Sundays.

Ministry House

This is a house for girls to live in a positive environment, experience discipleship, and participate in ministry. Our hope is to support the girls in this home in independent living and spiritual growth.

Youth Blow Out

This ministry is geared toward children in Kindergarten to fifth grade.  This ministry is our largest group.  This meeting uses music, drama, games, and bible teaching, to teach children about the love of Christ.  At the conclusion of every meeting, the children are fed a great meal.  The objective of this important ministry is to help children build a solid biblical foundation in Jesus Christ.  This program is also a discipleship tool for our teens who help run the program, create and perform in skits, lead music, and teach.

Teen Night

This ministry is geared toward teenagers between the ages of 12 and 16 years old. This is a group where we encourage leadership in the teens, taking the teens to conferences, on mission’s trips, and involving them in the Blow Out program, teaching the younger children.  We have developed a Teen Servant Team for this purpose, taking from the biblical model of leadership that teaches the greatest leader is the greatest servant.  This team meets regularly for deeper discipleship teaching, bible memory, prayer, and accountability.

Short Term Ministry

We value the ministry that takes place through our short-term ministry teams.  We have seen the effect and growth in short-term ministry team members as a result of their trip here.  Getting to know brothers and sisters in Christ of other cultures and working alongside them to love others has a profoundly challenging effect in the lives of those who visit.  The lives of many of the short-term ministry team members have been touched forever by those met in Oglala.  We hope to cast a vision in each member for his/her potential role in the ministry here and around the world.  Through personal relationship and encouragement, those who have been here can pray for and continue in relationship as a friend to those they meet here.
